Derek, originally from Phoenix, Arizona, has been a full-time resident of Flower Mound, Texas, for 10 years. He has been married for 23 years to his wife, Amanda. Their oldest son is currently serving in the United States Marine Corps, and their two daughters attend school in College Station. In June 2021, Derek was elected to a three-year term as Mayor of the Town of Flower Mound.
Derek France is a proven leader with a strong business acumen and more than 20 years of government service. His service began in early 1995 as a police officer in Mesa, Arizona. After nearly seven years with the police department, he began working as a senior international police advisor under the U.S. Dept. of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement program in Iraq. He then held senior management positions on large Dept. of Defense training and logistics missions, and ultimately served as the program manager supporting a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) contractor in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Throughout his 12 years of international work abroad, Derek gained valuable experience working with and respecting different cultures, religions, and ethnic groups from around the world. His experience in program management, financial operations, business development, and training services all have direct applications to Town government. In 2017, he and his wife founded Cross Timbers Consulting Group (CTCG), where he currently serves as president and CEO.
Prior to becoming the Mayor of Flower Mound, Derek served as an active member on the Town’s Veterans Liaison Board and Animal Services Board. He dedicates time to the community through philanthropy and volunteering in many other ways, including being active with the Flower Mound Chamber of Commerce, International Stability Operations Association (ISOA), National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA), and the National Eagle Scout Association (NESA). He has also volunteered his time and expertise to the Lewisville ISD Education Foundation (LEF) on an ongoing basis.
Derek has pledged to maintain a transparent and honest platform as Mayor. He will provide a cohesive sense of direction while working with the Town Council and the community. Above all, Derek stands for truth, justice, freedom, equality, and opportunity.
