Meet Derek, a dedicated and passionate community leader in Flower Mound, Texas!

Originally from Mesa, Arizona, Derek and his wife Amanda have been proud residents of Flower Mound for the past 12 years. Together, they have raised three children, including their oldest son, who proudly served four years in the United States Marine Corps, and their two daughters, one who recently graduated from the Mays Business School at Texas A&M University in College Station, and their youngest, who is still attending A&M as a Junior.

In June 2021, Derek was elected as Mayor of the Town of Flower Mound, bringing with him over 25 years of government service and strong business acumen. Throughout his impressive career, Derek has held various leadership positions, including serving as a police officer in Mesa, Arizona, and working as a senior international police advisor on the U.S. Dept. of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement mission in Iraq.

During his 15 years of international work abroad, Derek gained valuable experience in program management, financial operations, business development, and training services, all of which have direct applications to the Town government. In 2017, he and his wife founded Cross Timbers Consulting Group, where he currently serves as President and CEO.

Beyond his impressive professional career, Derek is also an active and dedicated member of his community. He volunteers his time and resources to many local non-profits and charities, including serving on the Board of Directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Denton County, an active member of Cross Timbers Rotary Club and the Summit Club of Flower Mound. Derek is committed to giving back to his community and has been an avid volunteer and fundraiser for various causes close to his heart, such as the Journey to Dream Foundation, Ranch Hands Rescue, and the Therapeutic Recreation Group.

As Mayor of Flower Mound, Derek is dedicated to transparency and honesty, fighting for policies that promote fiscal responsibility, lower taxes, safety, and prosperity for all residents. He is committed to preserving the small-town atmosphere and quality of life that makes Flower Mound such a special place to live, work, and play.
